FAQ

How do I adopt an animal?

Walk-ins are welcome every day, except Sunday, from 10 AM to 4 PM. We always recommend visiting the shelter in person and filling out a paper application. We do, however, have a submittable application available here on our site!

If you apply through this site, please follow up with a visit or, at the very least, a phone call!

Is a fenced yard required to adopt a dog?

Not all dogs will require a fenced-in yard, but some select dogs do.

Similarly, animals with health complications will require an active vet.

What are the adoption fees?

Adoption fees can vary depending on the animal. Generally, cat adoptions range from $50 to $100. This includes: Spay/Neuter, Vaccinations (FELV, Feline RCP-Ch, and Rabies), and they receive flea prevention and deworming before leaving. If you would like the cat to be tested for FELV and/or FIV, we only charge an extra $25!

Depending on age and breed, dog adoption fees can range anywhere from $100 to $350. This includes: Spay/Neuter, Microchip, Vaccinations (Kennel Cough, DAPP/ DAPP-L4, and Rabies), Heartworm Test, and they go home with flea, tick, and heartworm preventatives.

Purebreds and pets with special needs are subject to higher adoption fees!

How long is the adoption process?

Most of the time, we can approve or deny an application on the same day it is received. Adult dogs will most likely require a meet and greet with your dog(s), before we can let them leave. If we are unable to contact your landlord, we will have to wait to finalize the adoption until the landlord gives permission. In a perfect situation, you can be in and out of here in a few hours!

The perfect time to visit is during the week, between 12 PM and 2 PM. Most vets and property owners can be reached at this time, and you'll have plenty of time to look around and apply before we close!

When can I take my new pet home?

All pets must be Spayed/Neutered before we can let them go home. We have surgery once a week, per the doctor's availability. If the animal is big enough, they can usually get surgery on Wednesday, following an approved application!

If the animal is already Spayed/Neutered, vaccinated for Rabies (age-dependent), and appears healthy, they may be eligible to leave the same day you are approved.

Do you take animal surrenders from anyone?

When we have space available, we can take in local cats and dogs! Although we don't require a surrender fee, we do appreciate donations!

Unfortunately, we are unable to take in: Wildlife, Livestock, or Exotic Pets.

What is Neuter Day?

Neuter Day is our monthly neuter clinic specifically for male cats! Offering a neuter procedure and a Rabies vaccination for just $30! This occurs on one Sunday each month. Click here for more details!

Do you ever operate on dogs or female cats?

Yes! We offer a Spay/Neuter program that is supported by a Scioto County foundation. Eligibility is limited to individuals who live in Scioto County and qualify as low‑income under the foundation’s requirements.
